What We Do

Our Goals

  • Protect and enhance green space, forests, agricultural lands, clean water, fresh air, historic landscapes, and scenic roads in Henrico County.
  • Increase Henrico residents’ engagement in conservation actions they can take at home, in their yards, and in their communities.
  • Create a mindset of conservation as a priority that informs planning and decision-making across Henrico County government, schools, businesses, and shared community spaces.

Our Work

HCAN is a coalition of individuals and organizations, providing a collaborative forum for increased community engagement in advocacy and action towards shared conservation goals:
  • We hold monthly membership meetings.
  • We organize Action Committees for collaboration on issues of shared interest.
  • We advocate frequently with elected and appointed officials and candidates.
  • We show Henrico citizens how to engage in land use issues and other stewardship opportunities.
  • We provide easy, convenient, accessible, and appealing ways for citizens to participate in HCAN according to their particular interests.
Potential Action Committees include:
  • Henrico County 2045 Comprehensive Plan
  • Native landscaping
  • Sustainable agriculture
  • Sustainable energy
  • Specific zoning cases
  • Historic land preservation
  • Stormwater management
  • Waste management
  • Other topics as requested by the HCAN membership
